The time has come. I have been nominated for the Liebster Award (my first nomination EVER.)
The Liebster Award is passed down from blogger to blogger to help discover new blogs and even gain a few new friends along the way. I was nominated by the lovely Alex, over at the Berger Bungalow. She has AMAZING posts about weddings and marriage but also has some great tips and recipes for some yummy food! Just by a glance, she gives me so much inspiration for my future.
Now I am going to answer 11 questions Alex gave me for nominating 11 others.
I’m back from a busy but very successful summer. I hope you all had a great break and enjoyed the summer sun! I move into my dorm tomorrow and before life gets busy, I wanted to set some goals for my self before my semester starts. Since there are 15 weeks in a semester, I wrote 15 goals I wish to achieve. At the end of the semester, I will do a recap and let you know if I accomplish these goals.
Yesterday marks the end of my summer. I have officially moved into my dorm room and I have begun preparing for freshman orientation. This summer was incredible, I learned so much about my self and those around me. I was promoted to a Director position at my summer camp, so that was an experience I will never forget and I can not wait to build on it next year. To be honest, my whole summer consisted of: work, visiting with Josh and spending time with family. And even though that sounds so simple, I enjoyed every second of it.
Below, is a video I compiled of a bunch of pictures and videos from my summer. I have done videos like this before and my family loves it, so I figured I would give it a shot again. Thank you all for the tremendous love and support.
Hello everyone! I am beyond excited to say that I finally have my own self-hosted domain for Tori in Thousand Oaks. It took ALOT of thinking, inspiration and much needed advice, but I finally made the big step. A HUGE thanks goes to my friend Dani from Dani Dearest who really walked me through the baby steps and gave me the confidence I needed to pursue this goal of mine.
I originally started my blog to update my family while I was away at college. While that was wonderful, and I still intend to blog for that purpose, that just wasn’t enough. I saw how much fun Dani was having and I wanted to take part in that as well.
I am so excited about the future of this site and here are a few things that will be coming your way soon:
- Dorm Room Tips and Tours
- Goals for the year/semester
- Organization Tips and Reviews
- Quotes of the Week
- Monthly Updates
- A Cooking Collaboration with Dani
- AND much, much more!
For those willing to help me out and give me advice, I would love to hear it. The more the merrier! I have learned a lot in these past 48 hours, but I know there is so much more to come.
In the midst of my hectic summer camp session, I received a care package. I opened it up, and it was a small thank you gift from my school. My school found out that I was planning to spend my summer working at a camp through one of the programs I attend during the school year. To congratulate me for my service to youth they generously sent me a small gift.
In the picture above is everything from the package, while I love everything I received my favorite part would be the letters. I am going to be honest, I am beyond stressed. My job duties include preparing crafts, badge work, cooking in the kitchen and mentoring the volunteer’s for nine straight weeks. It is not easy, but totally worth it. But in the thick of the camp craziness, I lost sight of what truly matters at camp: taking my passion and sharing it with my campers.
Have you ever heard of Kid President? If not, you are missing out. At my college freshman orientation, they showed us this video. I highly suggest watching it. He is adorable isn’t he? Any ways, one of the quotes that Kid President has said is, “Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.” Now I am sure there are many ways that one could use this in their life. For, me my summer camp sessions are just around the corner and I think this quote perfect to keep in mind.
Every day I will be surrounded my dozens of children who all want attention, a friend, someone to talk to. It is my goal to get to know their names, actually talk to them and hear their stories. Ask them about what is going on in their life. I want to inspire the campers. I would love to make an impact on as many children’s lives as possible.
I want all the campers to feel special, to feel important. Now I know this is going to be very hard to do, but this is what I want to accomplish this summer. I want to be able to go back next summer and have the campers run up and share about their life and what had happened while we were apart.
How can you use this quote in your life this summer? I would love to know!
